Mujib Sculpture: What is the news of this project in Dholaipar which has been stopped due to controversy?
Although the installation of sculpture at Dholaipara in Dhaka was suspended due to objections and opposition to the sculpture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh, it was not canceled and the formal approval process was not completed.
The sculpture was to be inaugurated in the year of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary celebrations. The sculpture could not be erected even at the end of the year of Mujib and the golden jubilee of independence as the work was stopped due to controversy.
The installation of the Mujib sculpture in 2000 caused tensions between Hefazat-e-Islam and the ruling party.
Preparations were made to inaugurate the sculpture in December of that year. In the same year, the sculpture was made from China and brought to Bangladesh.
Now the final decision to place the sculpture is being delayed and kept secret.
